THE GATHERING working on 9th studio album

THE GATHERING have posted an update on their official website's forum about the new material theya re currently working on.

"Dear all, Sorry it has been a while since you've heard from us. We apologize for this. It actually means that we have been really busy with the band. During the last couple of months we created a lot of new ideas that lead to the first songs of our upcoming CD. Yes, we are working on a new album! Or actually, two new albums! Many of our new songs are very rock and guitar orientated and will end up on a heavy rock album for sure. The second album will be filled with more 'shoe gaze', dreamy tracks.

We can imagine if you are very curious about new vocalists. Currently, we are working with several. It feels very refreshing and interesting to work with different voices and it adds beautiful new colours to our music. Names will be presented as soon as our ideas become more concrete. As promised you will hear new material by the end of this year. The release of our new album is planned for Spring 2009. On behalf of the band, Hans Rutten"

The band released 'A Noise Severe' double-DVD and double-CD sets in February via THE END RECORDS. The double-live CD, recorded during The Gathering’s South American ‘Homelands’ tour, is the last release to feature singer Anneke van Giersbergen and showcases the band’s more rock-oriented music. The release helps us look back at a special period of the band’s history, as well as stands as the beginning of a new era. The DVD was filmed in front of 4,000 fans at Teatro Caupolicán in Santiago, Chile. 'A Noise Severe' is the heavier follow-up to The Gathering’s award-winning DVD, 'A Sound Relief.'

Proving once again that they're a band to be reckoned with, Mindless Self Indulgence (MSI) debuts on Billboard's Top 200 Album Sales Chart at an astonishing #27 with their album if!

Peeking into the underground realm where the band has forged a massive cult following, mainstream tome Entertainment Weekly dubs the album "like the entire Ozzfest - with a wee bit of cabaret interlude - condensed into 45 minutes."

Released Tuesday, April 29th on UCR/The End Records, if has already spawned amazing chart numbers prior to album release. Still holding steady since its debut six weeks ago, the single "Never Wanted To Dance" remains at the #1 Position on Billboard's Hot Dance Single Sales Chart. No strangers to the dance charts, singles from their last full length, "Straight to Video" and "Shut Me Up," have both hit #1 and remained in the Top Ten for over a year each.

MSI also prove that in addition to their sales and chart rankings, they are a formidable presence online, with a fan-base which is not only rabid, but also incredibly faithful. Chicago's TUB RING are gearing up for the for some long overdue West Coast dates, several of them with MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE

"I can never think of more than one or two witty greetings to start my updates with, so I'm just going to say 'fuck it' and forego any sort of pleasant opening.

If you haven't heard yet, we're heading out in late May-mid June to play a week's worth of shows with our friends Mindless Self Indulgence and The Birthday Massacre, and paying a long overdue visit to the West coast. We finally stopped ignoring all of your e-mails and pleas to come West and rounded up a few shows, so get your asses in gear and check out the dates (http://www.myspace.com/tubring), then tell us you hate us because we're still not coming to your city.

Look at me, I'm rambling...surprise surprise!

Back to the point at hand, the MSI shows are already selling out, so rather than waiting until the last minute and then being totally crushed when you find out that the show you were coming to see is sold out, it'd be a good idea to get your tickets now. All of the shows in May and June are going to be wild, it goes without saying that we're extremely excited to be out with MSI and TBM and to visit some of our friends on the West coast.

SIGH's upcoming six-song tribute to legendary black metal band VENOM, titled 'Sigh's Tribute to Venom ,' will feature the bass work of Dan Lilker (BRUTAL TRUTH, NUCLEAR ASSAULT) and Shane Embury (NAPALM DEATH, VENOMOUS CONCEPT)

In an update from the band, singer MIRAI KAWASHIMA says: "We're excited to have these two guest musicians and friends of SIGH to take part in our tribute to VENOM. Their work has helped make the tracks stand out even more. Dan plays bass on "Countess Bathory," while Shane is on "Witching Hour." It sounds awesome!"

Finnish monster rock n' roll band LORDI have entered the studio to record the followup to 'The Arockalypse'

The band has issued the following update:

"The band hit the studio today to record their fourth album, the follow-up to the successful 'The Arockalypse' album. About the recording, the band says: "We don't wanna record "The Arockalypse Part 2" - but we won't forget our roots either."  The band chose from over 60 songs to record: "It's the same positive problem as always," laughs guitarist Amen,  "Oh yeah, 60 demos is a lot to listen to,but at the same time it's a lot of fun. All the band members took part  in the writing process and that was very positive too."

This is the first time bassist Ox and keyboardist Lady Awa will be in the studio at the start of a recording: "I'm so excited! I just can't wait to hear the final results. The new songs kick ass so hard! I honestly think that this is gonna be the best Lordi album," says a thrilled Ox.

Lady Awa is enthusiastic about the new album too: "I joined the band at the time when Lordi was recording 'The Arockalypse' album, so I had to go straight to the studio and I didn't have much time to get to know the new songs,"  says keyboardist Awa, "Now I've had a couple of years -- such a joyride -- and I have had time to "get in" into the band.  So now I'm even more excited about making the new album, choosing and practicing the songs. I have even tried to compose a little bit by myself."

The recordings should be finished by summer, with the new album due out later this year."

In other news, THE END RECORDS has set a release date of May 13th, 2008 for the reissue of the 2002 debut album 'Get Heavy'

The reissue comes with the exclusive bonus track, 'Don’t Let My Mother Know.'

THE END RECORDS have set a release date of June 24th, 2008 for the North American release of 'The Ruiner' from Brooklyn-based band MADE OUT OF BABIES

The band's third album is their most inspired and complex offering to date. While The Ruiner retains the group's trademark ferocious hybrid of PJ Harvey, Jesus Lizard, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Big Black, it also finds the band's musical exploration showcasing something unsettling and unique.
 
Using photos from exhibits on the evolution of mankind at The Museum of Natural History in New York City, the album artwork was designed by critically-acclaimed artist Seldon Hunt (Isis, Pelican, The Melvins, Peeping Tom).

When MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE (MSI) uploaded their entire new album if onto their MySpace page (www.myspace.com/mindlessselfindulgence), the social networking site probably wasn't expecting that on Monday, April 21st, in just one day's time, the streams for all the new tracks of the album would exceed 680,000 unique plays.

Montreal's UNEXPECT are getting ready for several key festival appearances in North Amercia in the next couple of months.

"Montreal now has its own outdoor metal festival! In good European tradition this huge event spread over two days, called the "Heavy MTL Fest," should be an annual happening from now on.

We're more than glad to be part of this musical orgy amongst such a distinguished line-up : IRON MAIDEN, Mastodon, Hammerfall, Symphony X, Three Inches of Blood, Type O Negative, Motley Crue, Shadows Fall, Overkill, Hatebreed, Anthrax, Priestess, Three Days Grace, Drowning Pool, Dethklok and Lauren Harris! The event takes place on June 21st & 22nd at the Parc Jean-Drapeau in Quebec. Bill Murray won't be present but we wish him the best in his cannibalistic projects.

Mirai Kawashima, frontman for Japanese black metal act SIGH, has issued a statement about the band's involvement in the upcoming documentary 'GLOBAL METAL,' director Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn's follow-up to 2005's critically-acclaimed documentary, 'A HEADBANGER'S JOURNEY.'

The band's song "Me Devil" - off of 2007's 'Hangman's Hymn' - is played prominently in the movie's trailer and will be featured on the soundtrack to coincide with the movie's release.

Says Kawashima, "It's a great honor to be featured in the film as we enjoyed A Headbanger's Journey a lot. We do hope this documentary will be a trigger to help spread the Eastern plague and terror some more!"

Following the three week tour, the band has been added as opening act for a few shows with MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE. All dates are below.

In an update online, bassist Trevor Erb says: "Hey gang, As I'm writing this, we've got one rehearsal left before we head out for the Happily Ever Aftour. There's definitely going to be something for everyone on this tour, and we're excited to get out and make some new friends. This tour's going to be taking us to some warmer climates, and I think we're all ready for it. I should probably remind the crew to pack some swimwear, but I haven't owned any since my hot purple and black Speedos were retired with my swimming career back in 8th grade. Maybe it's time to bring back the old days? Oh yeah, I almost forgot, someone's probably going to break a bone on this run. Chris broke his toe on the last run, and I've started a pre-emptive strike with taking out a chunk of my elbow. Health insurance is for sissies.

Following this tour, we're going to be heading out for some dates with our friends, Mindless Self Indulgence. That's right, the upper West coast/midwest is in for some trouble when we roll through in June. Logical thinking would suggest that you can check our dates out to see where we're going to be playing and when. You won't want to miss these shows, so get your tickets now, because these shows will probably sell out, and then you'll cry to us about how you couldn't get in, and then everybody's crying.

With that being said, it's time to head to rehearsals, load the trailer, pack our bags, watch the return of The Office (holllaaaa), and hit the road. That's right, we're going to hit the road, with our fists and our fury. Call up the streets and sanitation department, Tub Ring is coming to town.

Nadja's second album was originally released in a limited edition CD-R run on Belgium's Nothingness Records. The album was re-recorded and re-arranged by Aidan Baker (guitars, vocals, woodwinds, drum machines) and Leah Buckareff (bass, vocals) in Baker's home studio. The duo recorded a new ambient track for the album.

Jarboe is known for her 14 years work with the legendary NYC East Village ArtRock band Swans, as well as her recent musical collaborations with such bands as Jesu, Neurosis and A Perfect Circle. Broadrick, who joined pioneering U.K. grind band Napalm Death at the age of 15, formed the influential metal/industrial act Godlflesh in the late-80s and in 2003 started up his current band Jesu.

About working with Broadrick, Jarboe says, "When I met Justin, he commented upon the impact and influence of Swans upon his music. We did a concert together in London in 2005 and began discussing working together. I had also been drawn to the unique energy of Jesu and so this was exciting to explore."
